About the Sri Lanka 7s

The Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7's was an annual international rugby sevens event held in Kandy, Sri Lanka of the Kandy Sports Club and staged at the Bogambara Stadium. It was usually held in September and ran for three days. The Main sponsors of the event were Sri Lankan Airlines and Singer, other sponsors included Rolls Royce, Airbus Industries, SITA, Haesl, IAE International, CFM, John Keells Elephant House, Lion Brewery and Amaya Resorts.

The tournament ran sucessfully for 11 years, attracting national sides from Asia and Europe but was transformed into a local club side competition using reinforcements from rugby sevens stars from New Zealand, Australia and Fiji.

The new tournament is called the Carlton Super 7's 2013 International League. In 2013, NZ sevens captain D. J. Forbes played for the Uva Vipers while the popular Sri Lanka national sevens coach Ben Gollings was a surprise playing for the North Western Blacks.

Also among the top rated international players, Lote Raikabula (NZ), Setefano Cakaunivalu (Fiji), Osea Kolinisau (Fiji) represented the Western Warriors while Carlin Isles (USA), dubbed as world’s fastest rugby player will took reins of Sabaragamuwa Stallions
